Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Reduced fertility in some women due to insulin resistance — specialist endocrine care at EndoMedics.
What is PCOS?
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterised by irregular menstrual cycles, elevated androgen levels, and polycystic ovaries visible on ultrasound.
PCOS is closely linked to insulin resistance, which can lead to weight gain, difficulty conceiving, and an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. At EndoMedics, we take a comprehensive endocrine approach to managing PCOS.
Common Symptoms
- Irregular or absent menstrual periods
- Excess facial or body hair (hirsutism)
- Acne and oily skin
- Weight gain, especially around the abdomen
- Difficulty conceiving (reduced fertility)
- Thinning hair or hair loss on the scalp
- Darkening of skin in body creases
